Procure or Grow Black Rice Nursery Plant

BLACK RICE

Black rice (Zizania aquatica) may be a species of untamed rice also called Chinese black rice. it's a medium grain rice that's high in nutrients and antioxidants, and it thrives in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 3a through 9b. It prefers warm climates and long growing seasons of a minimum of 3 to six months. Black rice thrives under full sun and with generous watering. Successful germination requires sustained temperatures of a minimum of 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

1. Fill a container with temperature water and soak the black rice seeds for twenty-four hours. Use a sieve to get rid of any rice seeds that float, as they're going to not be viable for germination.

2. Strain off the water within the container and secure the lid on top to hide the seeds. Place the container during a sunny, warm location for twenty-four hours. Temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit are optimal.

3. Pull any weeds from your planting site and till the soil. Spread one inch of compost on top of the soil, employing a rake to form the compost as level as possible.

4. Plant the black rice seeds slightly below the surface of the compost, leaving approximately 9 inches between seeds. Lay the seeds flat, instead of with one end pointing upward, as germinated seeds will root more easily from a horizontal position.

5. Water the seeds to saturate the soil, and go on  watering daily until the seeds sprout, which takes approximately 1 to 2 weeks.
